Self-Employment: Day 1
By The Tim on Jan 28, 2008 in Commentary
Well, today was the first day of working for myself. The day started off nicely, when I woke up to a blanket of snow over everything outside. Jennifer (my wife) and I got up and went for a walk with the dogs, then enjoyed a nice breakfast together before I got started at 9:00 AM sharp.
The first order of business was to do some long-needed updates to what is currently my largest project, Seattle Bubble. I made a post, then updated to the latest version of WordPress. Much of the remainder of the work day was spent on the whiteboard, planning a new layout for the site. I also signed up for Google Adsense, Text Link Ads, FeedBurner, and LinkShare.
At the end of the day, I made a to-do list for the first week. It consists mostly of some major updates to Seattle Bubble, including adding the advertising so I can start to make some money from it as soon as possible.
I’m excited and upbeat about the possibilities as I begin this journey. For inspiration I wore a Homestar Runner t-shirt and listened to Jonathan Coulton music most of the morning. Also, I think it’s a good sign that today is the 50th anniversary of the Lego brick, and was commemorated on the Google homepage. All in all, it was a pretty good first day.
and you’re off!
