End of Month 1: Revenue Check
By The Tim on Mar 1, 2008 in Finances
Well, it’s been a whole month since I started this venture, so how about time for an update on the revenue chart I shared earlier?

The purple bar on February is the actual income I earned in the first month. As you can see, my six-month plan allowed for the entire first month as setup time with no income, but in fact we earned almost as much in the first month as we had planned for the second month. Obviously it would be great to stay at least a month ahead of the plan. This would mean doubling the income in the second month, which I feel is totally do-able, and would match us up with the green, “optimistic” version of the six-month plan.
Here’s a breakdown of where the money came from:

The goal for the coming month is to increase the size of that purple slice, which comes from direct advertising (much higher margins than AdSense).
Another goal for the next month is to update this blog at least three times a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Tune back in on this coming Monday to see how that plan is going.
That’s exciting, being that far ahead of projection.
Also, thanks for the pie graph. It’s interesting to read. I didn’t know you were working alongside three advertising companies/methods.

I’m really impressed with how much thought you’ve put into developing conservative and realistic projections.
Popular wisdom is that entrepreneurs are free-wheeling risk takers that make decisions by the seat of their pants. Still, I think there are all kinds of approaches that can work, and you’ve clearly taken an analytical approach.
