End of Month 2: Revenue Check
By The Tim on Apr 3, 2008 in Finances
Having passed the two-month mark, it’s time time for an update on my revenue charts. The revenue story this month is one of those good news / bad news stories.
Here’s the good news:

The purple bars represent the actual income earned in each month. Total revenue increased by one third from February. While I was not able to maintain the one-month lead over the plan, the revenue for March did come in above both the minimum and the moderate estimates, so we’re still doing pretty good.
Here’s the breakdown of where the money came from:

The bad news is in the breakdown, which shows a complete absence of the purple slice for “Direct Ads” which (as I stated last month) has a higher potential and I am trying to grow. The good news is that I have already sold some direct ad space this month, and am continuing to grow my contacts in that area. The purple slice will return in April.
A huge portion of last month’s revenue came from one contract job. While the goal of Thatch Mound is to build a revenue model on individual self-sustaining projects rather than contract work, obviously it would be foolish to turn down contract opportunities. As long as contract work doesn’t take a considerable amount of time away from building my primary projects, it’s definitely something I will continue to be open to. In fact, I have another possible contract gig lined up this month.
So my two main revenue goals for April are to bring in at least 15% of the revenue from Direct Ads, and to expand into the additional revenue stream of subscriptions and direct sales. Stay tuned for more information on where I’m going with the latter goal.
I’m interested to see how the Direct Ads work out.

I really liked IRA S’ add at the SB. Given your audience over there of pretty affluent potential buyers, I think there’s some real opportunity for lining up discount-model real estate agents and even some loan officer types.
